Primary Drama Day - A Great Success!

The Drama Day brought to a close the four day Study Rovers @ Featherstone Rovers Primary Fun Learning Programme.  With the help of Rovers players Ian Hardman, Matty Dale and Jon Steel this covered numeracy(Sums Up!), Literacy
(with poetry from Ian McMillan and Pete Sansom), Music (African Drums into
schools) and finally Drama (Tales on Tour - Fairy Tales, Fables, Myths and
Legends).

We have brilliant infants and primary schools in the Featherstone and Streethouse Pyramid-the area is lucky to have such committed teachers
and schools - and they have wholeheartedly and with enthusiasm involved
themselves in the programme.

The players are ever present in these local schools as rugby coaches for the children and so it gave another dimension to their work. They were superb in the way they got the children involved. The schools that attended the drama day were Girnhill and Purston Infants, All Saints, Streethouse, St Thomas and North Featherstone Junior schools.

Approximately 250 students from years 2-4 across those schools were involved in the day. At the Chris Moyles stadium

The Tales on Tour group who are A Level Theatre Studies students based at St
Aidans High School in Harrogate were under the guidance of  Mrs Fran Bray
( Head of Drama) and Mrs Joyce Dixon( in charge of costumes).  They were
absolutely brilliant and kept things really ticking over through four
performances.

After each performance they had a workshop with the performers and the children tried on the costumes and got into the parts they were dressed up for!!  What an inspirational day.  Its what learning is all about - fun. Ian Hardman, Jon Steel and Matty Dale entered into the spirit of things and helped to make the day what it was - fun learning at Featherstone Rovers

The staff who came were brilliant and joined in the antics! and the fun. Best comment of the day came from a youngster from St Thomas who said,' Can we
come back tomorrow and I'll play St George alongside Ian Hardman and rescue the princess from the dragon!'
